Hang Your Art Like a Pro: Simple Tips for Perfect Placement

Your new wilderness artwork can make an impact from the moment it’s on your wall — and there's no complicated guesswork getting it up there.

All our canvas, framed canvas and framed wall art pieces come ready to hang.

To help you get the perfect placement every time, we’ve put together some simple, practical tips to guide you through the process with confidence and ease.

It's Ready to Hang | Framed art comes with all the bits

We take the hard work out of hanging framed art. Each framed piece arrives with D-rings and hanging cord already installed at the ideal height — plus, we include the correct wall hooks and nails so everything you need is in one place.

The pre-installed hanging system helps ensure your frame stays balanced and straight.

Canvas Made Easy | Get 2 wall hooks (not supplied)

Our unframed canvas prints come with a string attached to the back of the frame. To get the best, flattest hang, we recommend using 2 two-prong wall hooks spaced appropriately (wall hooks not supplied with our unframed canvas).

This method keeps your canvas flush against the wall, preventing any wobble or tilt that can happen with a single hook or wire.

Gallery Wall Pro Tip

Hanging multiple artworks as a group can transform your space — but it requires some planning. When arranging a gallery wall or sets like diptychs and triptychs, consistency is key.

Here's the PRO TIP: Add two small D-rings to the upper corners to give you more control, better alignment and spacing. These lock the artwork in a more precise position.

Give a 5–8cm of space between each piece for a balanced, uncluttered feel.  Or place them closer like in the image below if you have wide mats or wide frames as these help to spread the images too.

Before you start hammering nails, lay your artwork on the floor or use paper templates on the wall to visualise your arrangement. This step saves time and ensures your wall looks cohesive and intentional, and well ... awesome really!

Hang It Like a Boss

Getting the height right is surprisingly simple and makes a huge difference.

Here's the PRO TIP: The general rule of thumb is to position your artwork so the centre sits at about 150 cm from the floor — roughly at eye level for most people.

When hanging above furniture like sofas, beds, or sideboards, leave a gap of 20–30 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom edge of your art

This spacing creates a natural flow in the room, connecting your art and furniture without feeling cramped or disconnected.

Wall-Safe Every Time

Different walls require different hanging hardware for the best security. If you have plasterboard (what we commonly call gib in NZ), use plasterboard wall anchors to safely support the weight of your artwork. For brick, concrete, or masonry walls, masonry plugs and screws are essential to hold your piece firmly.

Wherever possible, try to locate and fix your hanging hardware directly into wall studs — the wooden beams behind the walls — for extra strength and peace of mind.

If you’re unsure about your wall type or fixing method, consulting a professional installer or home improvement expert is always a sensible idea.

Level & Step Back

To make sure your artwork looks polished, use a spirit level when hanging to keep your frame perfectly straight. Once it’s up, take a moment to step back and view your piece from different angles and distances. Sometimes a small tweak of a few millimetres can turn “close enough” into “spot on,” making your artwork feel thoughtfully placed rather than just stuck on the wall.

Keep It Bright, But Not Too Bright

Your artwork will look best and last longest when protected from direct sunlight. For framed pieces, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight can cause glare that makes your art harder to see, and over time, colours may fade or paper can deteriorate.

Choose spots with plenty of natural light but avoid direct sunbeams, or consider UV-protective glass framing options if your space is especially bright (just drop us a line and ask about a quote for UV-protective glass) .
